“Number-one fan like Misery, and misery loves company.” This track hits hard, not necessarily for a singular aspect or the other but for its overall “vibe.” billy woods is no stranger to delivering verses in manners that don’t pair perfectly with the tempo of the instrumentals, yet once again, he’s made it all work somehow. Kenny Segal provides a groovy, lo-fi, horn-heavy instrumental for his performance, giving a gangster-ish polish to a track that reads essentially like one big wet dream. Nothing about this track really stands solidly on its own, but paired with each other, especially in the overall context of the GOLLIWOG album, the track simply works well.
As a standalone track, “Misery” does work but not as well as it does on the full album. So, my recommendation naturally would be to give the full album a listen.
