PinkPantheress’s “Stateside” is a strong highlight from Fancy That.
“Stateside” is a track by modern music icon PinkPantheress. It was released in April as the second single from the album Fancy That.
“You can be my American, ha, ha boy.” Sign me up if that means I’ll be fed bangers like this on repeat. Like much of Fancy That, “Stateside” pulls its inspiration for the bulk of its production elements from the early 2000s UK club era, down to the flirtatious lyrics and the way she sings. Think hits from the likes of Jamelia, Basement Jaxx, and The Sugarbabes, add a touch of modernity, and you essentially have “Stateside,” but there’s a certain je-ne-sais-quoi to it that sets it aside from just another dance-pop track. The beauty of the track is especially felt when listening to Fancy That in full. At the point the track comes on, you’ve already been treated to stellar tracks that all call from the aforementioned early-2000s club scene, but “Stateside” acts as an unexpected euphoric high in the midst of it all.
PinkPantheress herself described it as the best song on the project. If “Illegal” is the only track you’ve heard from the project, I can confidently guarantee you that you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. Don’t just stop at “Stateside,” however, give the whole project a listen and thank your ears later.
